James (Jim) Kendall is an industrial designer with experience guiding organizations to architect and style product /product line solutions that meet the needs of the users while bringing value to the producer.
Jim’s work has included developing consumer product line solutions for Kenmore, Whirlpool, Kitchen Aid, and Maytag. Other consultancy work included major medical manufacturer’s products for Abbott, Baxter, Berchtold, and Ohmeda.
Jim’s expertise is managing and working collaboratively with diverse professionals to rapidly form product ideas into profitable artifacts. Jim has led efforts using a wide variety of user needs/desire discovery tools including ethnographic research, on-line questionnaires, focus groups, and creative brainstorming sessions. Cost effective, rapid prototyping tools and techniques to create visual and experience brand languages are also a part of his tool kit. Using design thinking, scenario planning, computer aided design and a variety of visualization techniques are common methods to communicate, creative, novel future states.
Jim holds a Master’s degree in Industrial Design backed by a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Management along with a minor in Industrial Engineering. Along with teaching industrial design at the University of Illinois, his work includes over 50 design and utility patents along with 30+ years of experience. Jim is a member of the Industrial Designers Society of America.
